Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Color in Bruised Plum

Tom Ford's Private Blend Lip Color in Bruised Plum ($45), a semi-matte black cherry with a whisper of shimmer, hardly needs me to tell you how gorgeous it is. In fact, I am going to let the pictures do the talking while I go about my day. If you want to know my opinion about quality of packaging, lipstick texture, and performance, see my post on Smoke Red.

Enjoy! And if you have any questions, please post a comment.

Bruised Plum won Allure's Best of Beauty Award for 2010.

  1. This and Black Orchid have totally caught my eye - I'm looking for vampy fall colors :) It's very pretty! $48 though...eep!

  3. I'm going to pretend I never saw this.

  4. Along with shimmery dark blue nail polish, a good plum lipstick is my makeup Achilles' Heel. God, this looks good. Almost enough to shell out. ALMOST!

  5. Not that I'm going to get it, but where does one get this tasty luscious morsel?

  6. A very daring color. I don't think I could pull it off, but it looks perfect for fall. And the white packaging is <3 <3 <3

One day I will need a Tom Ford lippie. I can see it happening =P

  7. Oh, I just want this sooo badly! I can hardly stand it. I have simply got to bite the bullet and order it before it's gone forever.

    Thanks for the lovely photos!

  8. Larie, I agree Black Orchid looks very much like worth investigating. Have you seen the Black Orchid set, which includes a compact of pressed perfume, the nail polish and the lipstick? Eek.

  9. Dia, I often say that about lipsticks, especially the ones that end up not looking so great on my lips, but which look gorgeous in the tube,

  10. Veuve, I should put a big blinking warning at the top of posts like this. If only other bloggers would do that for me, I'd probably buy new makeup only a couple times a year!

  11. Liz, what I great idea. I have several deep-blue shimmery nail polishes, and there's enough blue in this lipstick that if I wear something neutral, even monochromatic, I might be able to pull off wearing both at once! I think the colors would look gorgeous at one of the Christmas parties I go to.

  12. SuePhilly, I bought it at Neiman Marcus, but I just checked and it looks like they have already pulled the previous collection from the Tom Ford Beauty web page. I find it the back way into NM (Google), but I would suggest that if anyone wants a color in the ivory casing or wants the colors that were not carried over to the new collection (Smoke Red, Bruised Plum, etc) don't delay! Here's the link: http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod109800002

Hmm, I just noticed all items in the previous collection have a status (pre-order/no date). I don't know what this means, exactly, but my guess is they've already been pulled.

I found the older style still available at House of Fraser (UK), but according to the web site, there are only 4 Bruised Plums left. http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Tom+Ford+Private+Blend+Lip+Colour/141632493,default,pd.html

  13. Dovey, I often think anyone can wear a dark color (as long as that color would be flattering to the skin tone in the first place. All you need to do is blot it down to a stain and put some balm on top. Or use a brush to apply the thinnest layer, which is lest wasteful than blotting it all away!

When I started wearing bright red lipstick, which really is flattering on me but is definitely not a subtle look, I had to wear it in private until I got used to seeing myself in it. Once I liked what I saw and felt confident, I was able to let my lips out into society, lol.

  14. Vintage, I agree the shimmer is beautiful. It's extremely subtle and, overall, gives the appearance of a semi matte.

  16. Your pictures are fabulous. Why can't I get mine to show like yours??? I can't wear the shade but it's beautiful on you.

  17. Ammie, Marcia, thanks so much!

Marcia, maybe my camera takes good closeups of product, but I absolutely cannot get it to take pictures of an EoTD like you can.
